Contactless identification and control

The main application of RFID tags is contactless identification. A lot of such system exist, and they are sold at a high price. Our one is not much different, but the wireing is simpler, and the units can operate without permanent PC connections..

We use a 4-wire bus connection for power and RS485 data. Every unit is connected to this bus and one PC is the master. For added protection the bus can be separated into segments by isolators. Any number of units can be connected to this bus, but only 30 can be in one segment. A 30 cm proximity reader reads the ID tags, and sends them to the central PC. The reader unit has a few programmable output pins and it can drive high or low levels or a produce a series of pulses on these outputs. The acceptable keycodes and the corresponding actions are stored in local NVRAM so the reader can be used without PC connection.

An input/output unit has 16 (or more) programmable pins that can sense anything and drive anything at TTL level. This unit can also be used without PC connection. At request we can connect other type of devices into this communication system.
